Have an old sweater you’re thinking about throwing out or giving away? Not anymore! Upcycling is a great way to give new life to old clothing items. You can incorporate the pockets and details of the original piece of clothing into your new project, while at the same time preserving the memories of your favorite clothing items.
How about turning your old sweater into a chic new tote? This is a fairly easy project to do, and is one that is sure to invite compliments when it’s finished.
Working with sweater knits can be a little bit tricky, because once you cut into them, you have to treat the fabric with care to avoid running it. This pattern gives tips for working with sweater knits once you have cut the fabric.
One old sweater
1/2 yard to 3/4 yard strong, stable, woven fabric for the lining. (The amount depends on the size of your sweater)
1 set purchased purse handles
Package of 1” double-fold bias tape in a coordinating color
Optional decorative trim as desired
Seam Gauge, Measuring Tape & Ruler
