These precious sock animals are very easy to make. Instructions are given to make six animals – a giraffe, zebra, monkey, bear, puppy and pig. All animals are assembled using a whip stitch by hand.

Every animal will be unique depending upon the socks you use. Purchase inexpensive socks that don’t have writing on them. You will also need felt, buttons, polyester stuffing and thread. You can use any size socks – men’s, women’s or children’s. Larger socks will make larger animals. Smaller socks will make smaller animals. I used women’s and men’s socks for the giraffe, monkey and zebra. Girl’s ankle socks were used for the pig, puppy and bear. The muzzle on the monkey is embroidered with stem stitch, using embroidery floss. You can tie ribbons or wrap fleece scarves around the animal’s necks to make them even more fun. If you want to make them for babies, you should embroider eyes and nostrils in place of the buttons, and also eliminate giraffe and zebra mane. Sew Velcro to the ends of the long armed animals and they can give hugs to children or wrap them around jars filled with treats and give them as gifts.

Materials Needed to Make One Sock Animal:

-Socks - If you are working with knee length socks, you will need only one sock for each animal. If you are working with shorter socks (calf length or ankle), you will need two socks (one pair) for each animal.
-9” x 12” Felt rectangle – one color for monkey, bear & pig; two colors for zebra, giraffe & puppy
-Buttons with two holes – two 11/16” white & two 7/16” black for eyes; two 7/16” to -5/8” for giraffe, zebra & pig muzzles; one 7/16” to 5/8” for bear & puppy muzzles
-Polyester fiberfill stuffing
-3/8” Grosgrain ribbon for giraffe horns– 8” piece
-Thread – black, white & color/s that coordinate with felt & socks (you can use regular sewing thread or quilting thread. Quilting thread is heavier than regular sewing thread and will work well for assembling the animals if you have it.
-Embroidery floss for monkey muzzle – black
-OPTIONAL: 1” piece of hook & loop Velcro for long armed animals

There are eight pages of instructions, one page of patterns and forty-one photographs.
