I've given you very easy instructions and illustrations to hand applique the pieces, as well as completely assemble the bags. You will be amazed at how quickly these bags can be stitched together!
I've made my patterns very easy to read and understand. I give you a complete list of everything you will need to complete the project. I've broken everything down into step by step instructions and have included LOTS of full color photos and illustrations.
made to hold mobile phone bits and pieces and sewed up quickly and simply. Shall make more.
Fabric (100% cotton fabric - 44/45” wide):
1/4 yard or 1 fat quarter will make 2 small bags, or 2 medium bags
1/3 yard makes 1 large bag
Heat N Bond Lite (or lightweight fusible webbing of your choice):
1/8 yard will make at least 3 appliques for the small bag
1/4 yard will make at least 6 appliques for the medium bag
1/4 yard will make at least 4 appliques for the large bag
Small fabric scraps for appliques in various sizes (100% cotton fabric)
1/4” or 3/8” wide ribbon for drawstrings (needed for each bag):
1 yard for small bag
1 1/4 yard for medium bag
1 1/2 yard for large bag
Sewing thread to match bag fabrics
Embroidery floss to match or contrast with applique fabrics
I used brown for the owl & dog, and black for the cat
Fabric glue (for bow, and if using wiggle eyes)
Embellishment Suggestions for Appliques:
Bows for necks on cat and dog
For eyes - buttons, mini buttons, fabric paint, satin stitching, wiggle eyes
Cat’s inner ears - satin stitching, fabric paint, fabric (for larger cats)
Buttons look the best for the owl’s inner eyes.
Buttons and satin stitching should be done during the stitching process,
and wiggle eyes or paint should be done after bag is assembled. Fabric paint can be used for any of
the embellishments as well.
The above are just suggestions. You can embellish the appliques with anything you want, or with
whatever you have on hand. Just be sure to look over your applique pieces so that you can choose
what you want and get what you need before beginning your project. There are so many possibilities!
5” or 6” embroidery hoop, scissors, pins, embroidery needle, paper & pencil, cardstock (for printing applique pattern pieces, optional), iron & ironing board, sewing machine, measuring tape, cutting mat with ruler & rotary cutter (optional but very helpful)
You can use my patterns for personal use and to make things that you sell from your website, online shops, and craft shows.
