“I made an underwater quilt using these appliques. The instructions are very clear. Thanks!”

These sea creature appliqués are fun and easy to make. There are six creatures – a sea turtle, seahorse, octopus, shark, fish and crab. There are also four other sea designs that you can use to create little vignettes – seaweed, starfish, bubbles and coral. I have appliquéd the designs onto 12 1/2” fabric squares to give you ideas for placement of the pieces if you would like to make a quilt or you can create your own underwater scenes, combining different elements. You can appliqué the designs on t-shirts, jackets, tote bags, jeans, etc.

The appliqué designs come in one size but they can easily be reduced or enlarged to any size that you would like. Buttons are sewn on for the eyes on the sample creatures. Other options would be to appliqué and sew black and white circles for the eyes, or embroider the eyes, if you don’t want to use the buttons. It is not recommended to sew button eyes on appliqués for children under the age of three.

Instructions are given to machine stitch around the appliqué designs to finish the edges. Another option would be to embroider the blanket stitch around the edges of the appliqué pieces.

The appliqués can be made for girls and boys. The edges of the appliqué pieces may fray slightly when washed which will add to the charm of the designs.

The sizes of the sea creature are as follows:
Sea Turtle - 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
Seahorse - 5" x 10"
Crab - 7 3/4" x 9 1/2"
Octopus - 7 1/2" x 8 1/4"
Shark - 4" x 9 1/2"
Fish - 7 1/2" x 9 1/4"

Materials Needed:

-Light to medium weight cotton print fabrics of your choice for creatures – fabric pieces need to be slightly larger than pattern pieces
-OPTIONAL: Light to medium weight blue cotton print fabrics for backgrounds if you are making blocks like the samples – six 12 1/2” squares
-Iron-on fusible web – web pieces need to be slightly larger than pattern pieces
-Sewing thread – white to sew eye buttons & color of your choice
-Buttons with two holes – black & white – sizes will vary depending upon appliqué design youare making.

There are seven pages of instructions, five pages of patterns and twenty-one photographs.

*Note: These are downloadable instructions for making a crayon tote. Pattern for monkey applique is included. Since it is a download, you will receive this by email and it will also be located in the "My Library" section of your user account immediately after purchase.

My son had a bedding set that went perfectly with these appliques. I turned them into framed wall hangings. They were adorable!
