“Made this mug rug for my friend for her birthday and she absolutely loved it. It was so easy to make and I made it in just a few hours. The applique pieces were a nice size, so was easy to do the button hole stitch around them. I loved doing this one so much that I have done about 5 more for friends.”
You can use them for setting your mug on with a snack, or my favorite way, leaning them against the wall in my hutch. You can even stitch rings to the back and hang on your wall.
These are the funnest of things to make! If you choose the machine applique, you can whip these up in no time. They make great gifts when given with a cute mug. They are so easy whether you hand applique or machine applique. The most difficult part is trying to decide what fabrics to use.
I guide you through the entire process from beginning to end. I explain how to do it with hand applique and machine applique. I also give you tips and ideas for variations using different materials. I also give you lots of tips and illustrations.
I've made my patterns very easy to read and understand. I give you a complete list of everything you will need to complete the project. I've broken everything down into step by step instructions and have included lots of full color illustrations. The pattern pieces are very crisp and neatly drawn using a computer program.
Personal & commercial use.
You can use my patterns for personal use and to make things that you sell from your website, online shops, and craft shows.
All photos were taken by me, and all illustrations, pattern pieces, and instructions were created by me. You can not redistribute the pattern, images, or photos in any way. You also can not claim the finished item as your own design.

6 1/2 x 10 inch piece of fabric for top (see supply notes about starting with bigger fabric if desired)
6 1/2 x 10 inch piece of fusible fleece, I used Pellon brand
7 1/2 x 11 inch piece of fabric for back
2 3/4” x 44” strip of fabric for binding
Thread to match fabrics
Embroidery floss to match or contrast with applique fabrics, and for any special stitching

Refer to pattern page for additional information, tips, and embellishment & embroidery ideas.
If you will be using glue for attaching embellishments such as wiggle eyes, pom-poms, or bows, be sure to use a good quality and washable fabric glue. I like to use Fabri-tac by Beacon.
Scissors, pins, sewing and embroidery needles, embroidery hoop, paper & pencil, paper or cardstock (for printing pattern pieces), iron & ironing board, sewing machine, cutting mat with ruler & rotary cutter (optional), pressing cloth or piece of light colored, 100% cotton fabric for fusing your fleece to the top (depending on the brand you use, some fusible fleece instructions call for it).
