I am still a beginner/intermediate sewer and based on the reviews thought this would be pretty easy. I tried this pattern once, and maybe I bit off more than I could chew with a long name for my first project, but I've never appliqued anything before and I would have liked some instruction on how to do the sewing for the applique part (how to handle curves and turns, where to leave the needle down on the letter vs the background fabric, etc. when changing direction.) I had to look elsewhere for instructions on how to do this, got frustrated and the name pillow turned into an intial pillow. I'd say if you've never appliqued before, this is probably not the project to learn on. The pillow itself turned out cute and the directions to do it were fine. By the way, anyone wanting to resize the letters should be able to do it using a copier that allows you to increase or decrease the percentage size of your copy. Some printers allow this as well.

One of my favorite "Go To" patterns, especially for kid's gifts. Often I don't have a lot of money when my kids get invited to a birthday party, but I usually have enough materials on hand that I can pay very little for a GREAT gift. All the kids LOVE them when they receive them.

These pillows look so hard to make that I actually bought the pattern nearly a year before I actually attempted to make one! I was so scared of it! But I finally made myself sit down and make one for my daughter and now I can't stop making them! The instructions are very clear and easy to follow and even if you've never appliqued before (I hadn't) you won't have any trouble at all. I love these pillows! I look for excuses to make one for someone now!

I get requests for these all the time! Everyone loves and raves about these pillows. The first one I made took a little time because I was making sure I was following the steps to the 'T' . It now takes me about an hour or so depending on the name. Considering this was the first time I had ever done applique... I was very happy. It also opened up a whole new world of applique to me. Thank you so much for this pattern.

Love love love these pillows! Finished three during a few nap times. Very easy and great instructions. I ended up lining my third pillow with flannel to make it a little heavier and less lumpy and it turned out perfectly. This will be my go-to gift this year!

I have really loved my "Personalized Name Pillows" from Kimberbell Kids. I've made 5 for my own kids and 2 for my twin nephews. The kids LOVE them. I even put X's and O's inside my own childrens pillows so they'd always have a hug and kiss from mom.

Name Pillows This is the best ebook! I love it! It is super simple, you can make such a variety of looks from just one ebook! I've made these for gifts for my children's friends and they LOVE them and the other parents can't wait for their kids' birthdays so they can get one too! lol!

Great pillow. However it took me 3 hours to make the pillow cover and I used 5 machine embroidered letters. Guess I will just have to keep practicing!

by Candy Ritchey
on August 1st, 2001

I love this pattern too! I make them for baby gifts and the WHOLE family loves them. I add small, pretty ribbon strips at both ends at the top of the pillow and they can be tied on to the top inside or outside of the crib rail. When the baby is old enough to stand, the ribbons can be tied and and the pillow place on a shelf or chair in the room or cut off so there's no ribbon safety issue. I started doing machine embroidery applique because I've NEVER been a good satin stitcher!

This is a great pattern with clear easy to follow instructions. I've made a pillow for each birthday party my daughter has attended for her preschool friends and I'm not sure who's happier the kids or the mom's. What a great personalized gift idea for not a lot of money. We'll be using this one for a long time to come!!

by Jean Kester
on August 1st, 2001

I found the instructions so amazingly simple. I was able to make it using scraps from my quilting stash. If you know a child with a unique name that you can't find anything personalized for, this is the perfect gift and how special they will feel having something that is personal and theirs! I embellished mine with cut out cupcakes. http://quiltingranny.blogspot.com/2009/05/uniquely-hers.html

by Lisa Franklin
on August 1st, 2001

I made a slew of pillows this year for Christmas gifts for all my friends and family's children. They are so fun to make! and I love that you don't need large pieces of fabric - I used up a lot of my scrap fabric stash and that made the pillows a very inexpensive, but very nice personalized gift. The instructions are easy to follow and I loved the way the letters were printed in reverse for easy transfer! Thanks so much!

by Tara Keys
on August 1st, 2001

I made my first pillow this morning for a birthday part we went to this afternoon. I am not a beginner sewer, but not a professional either. Start to finish took me about 3 hours (with interruptions from 3 kids). The instructions are well written-the only thing I had to do over was make sure the fusible web is applied to the WRONG side of the fabric. Either that wasn't in the instructions, or I missed it. Oops. Other than that, I hit no road bumps. The pillow was a hit at the party, and I have had 3 requests from my kids for their own, and 3 from other people. I love it!! Thank you!!

by Hollie Hanash
on August 1st, 2001

What a sweet pillow! Instructions were clear and well illustrated. If you need a quick idea for a baby shower gift, pair it up with the burp cloth instructions...you will be the "hit" of the party. I was able to complete this pillow from printing the instructions and lettering to walking out the door with gift in hand in less than an hour. Way to go Kimberbell Kids! This pillow is really perfect for everyone. These are easy enough to make for just about any occasion. Thanks so much!

I made this pillow adding a row of black paisley around the center block with the name on it. I have the "Believe" pillow pattern and it shows to do that. It made my pillow somewhat larger, but set it off like a mat on a picture. I covered cording for the outer edges of the pillow...fat, fat cording. It was darling.
