“Adorable hats! Love these easy to follow instructions.”
The party hat is fun and easy to make. It can be made as a star birthday hat, a witch hat, princess hat, Santa or elf hat, etc. The size is a standard party hat that fits a one year old to an adult. It is designed to sit on top of the head and tie under the chin. Patterns for numbers 0 through 9 are included. Two sizes of stars are also included – a small star for numbers up to 9 and a larger star for numbers above 9.
Instructions are given to sew the hat shape using a very firm stabilizer/interfacing and fabric. Then the hat is embellished with ribbon ties, feather boa, an optional silk flower or ribbon rosette (instructions are given to make the ribbon rosette). Jumbo rick rack (around the bottom edge) and a large pompom (at the top) can be glued to the hat in place of the feather boa. A piece of elastic cord can be sewn to the sides of the hat in place of the ribbon ties.
Materials Needed for Birthday Hat:
-Fabric (any weight) – 8 1/2” x 11” rectangle to cover hat shape, 5” square for star shape, 2” square for each number shape
-Firm Stabilizer/interfacing – 8 1/2” x 11” rectangle (Pellon® Peltex®72F Ultra Firm Stabilizer was used for sample hat but any firm stabilizer/interfacing will work fine)
-Iron-on fusible web for star & number – one 5” x 7” rectangle (Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 Fusible Web by The Warm Company was used for sample but any fusible web for fabric will work fine)
-1/4” to 5/8 Ribbon for ties – two 24” pieces
-Feather boa – 5/8 yard (or 1/2 yard of jumbo rick rack and a large pompom can be used in place of feather boa)
-Sewing thread – color that coordinates with fabrics
There are six pages of instructions, two pages of patterns and twenty-five photographs.

Adorable hats! Love these easy to follow instructions.
Great pattern. Easiest thing there ever was to make. I enlarged it a little to make it more of a statement, but overall super easy and useful pattern for so many things. Even a Princess hat with tulle would be great.
Great little pattern. I made my grandson his 1st birthday hat. I used burlap - everyone thought it was just too cute.
