“I made this car mat for my three year old son before we went on vacation. He loved it and still plays with it. My five year old daughter loves it too and requested her version of it. For her, I took off the car pockets and extended the play area and instead of a road it is a brown path. We made pretty felt houses and animals for her to have a fairy forest play pad. She loves it too. Great pattern. After I made my son's I realized I wish it had a closure to keep the bag together. With my daughter's I added a closer and also more velcro on the outside pockets. I also divided one of the outside pockets to make smaller pockets. I like it better with the button closure to keep the bag together when little hands are carrying it. My son's flop's open very easily. This is a great pattern and any kid would love it!”

This bag is WONDERFUL for trips to Grandma's, for church (it'll fit on most pews), or even the car!

When closed, the bag measures 15"x10"; when fully opened (using the car mat) it measures 15"x40".

When closed, the bag has 2 outer pockets that are great for storing coloring books, etc.

Open the bag up once and it has a tic-tac-toe board and a chalkboard.

Open up once again and it has a car mat with Velcro pockets to hold 12 cars and 2 zipper pockets to hold the extra road and building pieces.

***Please note: This pattern is written in a way that a beginner sewer should be able to make the bag...but because of the different types of materials used together (felt, cotton fabric, chalkboard fabric), plus the length of the pattern...I would NOT recommend this for a "true" beginner sewer.***
