This staple pattern for sizes 12m-5T is a closer-fit, hip-length T-shirt in both long and short sleeves. It can be as simple as a plain long- or short-sleeve tee....or dress it up with the double-ruffle option for a T-shirt dress that's perfect with a pair of leggings.

No serger required! You'll just need a regular sewing machine! :)

New to sewing with knits? I've designed this pattern for you, and included 10 pages of fully-illustrated tutorials on how to sew with knits....you'll learn the basics from choosing fabrics all they way to tips on sewing with pre-ruffled fabric. There's also a "Resources" section so you can find great knit fabrics and other notions.

The pattern pieces are computer-drafted and designed to print properly on either A4 or U.S. Letter-sized paper. Both U.S./Imperial measurements and metric equivalents are used throughout.

Birdsong™ is dedicated to creating accurate patterns, tutorials, and e-books. This pattern was thoroughly tested by several home sewists. You'll enjoy this if you're new to knits or an experienced sewist!

Fabric: 58"-60"- (1.5m) wide jersey with at least 25% stretch (I demonstrate how to measure stretch percentage in the tutorial section). For the double-ruffle tee, use a sturdier jersey knit or an interlock, so that the weight of the ruffles won’t stretch the tee too much.

Please see the measurement charts included in the photo section to determine the size to sew.

12m - 18m: 1/2 yd (.46m)
2T-5T: 5/8 yd (.57m)

Additional fabric for ruffles:
Size 12m-4T: 1/3 yd (.3 m) for both ruffles, or 1/6 yd (.16 m) for each).
Size 5T: 2/3 yd (.61 m) for both ruffles (or 1/3 yd (.3 m) for each.

*1/4”-wide (5-6 mm) clear elastic (recommended), *Strips of all-bias fusible knit stabilizer
