My method for Cutout Quilts allows you to cut pieces for up to six blocks at once. Each cut out block makes two blocks for the quilt so by stacking fabrics you can cut once and create pieces for several blocks. The quilts are fun and easy to make. The machine appliqué work can be done with a blanket stitch or a satin stitch.
I used hand painted fabrics for the flower appliqués and placed them on a dark navy background. The lovely batik fabrics available at your local quilt store would be wonderful in this design. You want the fabrics to be somewhat similar in color value but to have a range of colors. In my quilt the mottled hand painted fabrics include violets, turquoise, marine green, and blue. They are of medium value so they will stand out on the dark background fabric.
