This satchel pattern is broken down into steps that you can do in several sessions. Measurements are given in inches as well as metric. The finished bag has a zipper closure, four inside pockets, and four outside pockets. Two of the outside pockets have zipper closures. Finished bag - Outside dimensions: 15" (38cm) wide at the bottom, 10" (25.5cm) tall, and 6"(15.2cm) deep. Strap drop to top of bag (not to attachment) is 8" (20cm.) I have a customer who made this bag with longer straps for carrying on her shoulder, and it looks great.

Materials list:

-Main Fabric 3/4 yard (about 69cm)
-Lining Fabric 1 yard (about 92cm)
-Contrast Fabric or Leather/Suede/Vinyl ¼ yard (20cm)
(If not using a contrasting fabric, just add on 1/4 yard to your main fabric measurement.)
-Buckram or fairly stiff interfacing (like Craft Bond 808 by Peltex) 1.5 yards (1.4meters)
-Peltex 70 Ultra Firm Stabilizer piece 7" x 14.25" (18 x 11 cm)
-Lightweight cotton fabric for pocket lining 1 yard.
-Piping - I used Wrights Maxi Piping product #303 - 3 packages (6 yards needed) www.wrights.com
-3 zippers - 18" (45-46cm), 7" (18cm), and 3.25" (8cm)
-3/8" (1cm) wide elastic - 28" (71cm)

This pattern will work best done in a home decor weight fabric. Experienced seamstresses will certainly be able to adapt fabric and interfacing choice to work with lighter or upholstry weight fabrics.

First attempt at piping but the detailed instructions guided me through and I was surprised at how easy sewing it was. Overall this is not a pattern for beginners but well worth the effort as the end result is a great bag.

Love the results with this pattern. Made a diaper bag for a friend. I will warn that this is not a beginner pattern. I was glad I had some experience to draw on. Not quick and easy but you will end up with an amazing bag that will serve you well and looks proffessional.
