Hipster Teddy Bear is a PDF sewing pattern for a modern, huggable teddy bear softie. Designed for confident beginners, it would be a perfect ‘first softie’ project. Appliqueing the face and turning the thinner limbs right side out can take a bit of patience, but it’s worth it!
A finished softie measures approximately 20” (50.8cm) from ear to toe – it’s a nice big bear that doesn’t use up a ton of fabric. The limbs are soft and squishy, making it perfect to drag along or hug.
Quilting cotton, backed with iron-on interfacing. A stable knit or fleece may be used as well, but it will look less structured.
1/2 yard (45 cm) quilting cotton
1 yard (91 cm) lightweight, woven fusible interfacing—Pellon 911FF and 906F both work well; 906F is easier to work with because it is thinner
1/4 yard (23 cm) Wonder Under, Heat’n Bond Lite, or other paper-backed fusible transfer product
Palm sized scraps for the face; I used wool felt (it won’t fray around the edges, as cotton might)
Hand sewing needle
1 bag Poly-fill or other stuffing
Clips or pins
Chopstick and hemostats for stuffing (optional)
(Optional for glasses accent): Freezer
paper, sharp embroidery scissors or a
craft razor, & felt scraps
