The Precious Dress - Sizes 3m-10 years (with optional apron)

Description

The Precious Dress has a sweet, timeless design that is oh-so versatile. It can be made with fun cotton prints for comfortable play and a whimsical look. For dress up, special occasion fabrics can be used to make a formal delight. It is a great style for applique, embroidery, and embellishment with beautiful trims.

The bodice can be made in an empire or natural-waist length. It can be sleeveless, or have puffy sleeves. For the neckline, a Peter Pan collar can be attached, or it can be left collarless. For a snugger fit, ties can be sewn into the bodice at the sides. As an alternative to ties, a sweet apron can be added.

This eBook contains the patterns and instructions to make a classic dress in sizes 3 months - 10 years. The placket is enclosed, so the buttons and buttonholes do not show. This gives a crisp, clean finished appearance to the back of the dress.

Detailed sizing information is given so you will get a great fit and just the length you are after. As a bonus, matching dolly-sized patterns are provided in a supplemental file.

Materials:
Notions - thread, straight pins, buttons (hook and loop tape for dolly), fusible interfacing, fabric marking pen/pencil.
Fabric - 2-3 yards, depending on size, style, and options.

I've made a few. I ended up switching to regular button holes with exposed buttons after the first one. I combined this with a big bow pattern from this site and it all turned out so beautiful together. Love it.

Loved the end result, a beautiful classic dress :) However, the placket for the bodice needed to be sewn 1" rather than 3/4" to fully hide the buttons which I was a little disappointed about because I had fully followed the instructions and also used the right sized buttons.

This pattern is so versatile. I have used it for easter, christmas, and even halloween costumes. It has also helped with those basic peter pan collar shirts that you need but can never find in the right color. Such a classic pattern with easy follow instructions. Carla makes it a breeze.

Great directions as always! The first time I made this pattern I actually combined with the skirt to a European pattern, and you wouldn't have known the two weren't intended to go together--that's how great Carla's bodice on this dress is! Again, numerous options make for the ability to design that one of a kind dress perfect for your little girl!

I can tell you that if Carla has made the pattern - I have made the dress about a million times. Her patterns are my wardrobe staples for my children. I have made this dress for Easter, dress up, Disneyworld and have made it into every princess dress imaginable. I love how easy it is and how I can customize the basic pattern into many other outfits.

I used this pattern as my first attempt at making clothes for my daughter. It probably wasn't the best choice for a getting back into sewing after a 20 year hiatus, but it turned out well. I used red dot fabric for the dress, and used white for the collar and sleeve bands so my DD could be dressed like Minnie Mouse for Halloween. She then wore it do Disney World, and got tons of attention! My second attempt was using fabric inspired by Jesse from Toy Story. It turned out great, and was much quicker since I had learned from my mistakes on the Minnie dress. I love the hidden back buttons. Carla is a wonderful designer, and she has made it possible for this novice to make beautiful clothes for her daughter!

Another great pattern from CarlaC/Scientific Seamstress. All of her patterns are so clear and so well written. The directions are clear and diagrams are helpful. Don't be overwhelmed by the "pages and pages" of how to determine the size you need. It all seems so technical, but really isn't. One suggestion I'd make is to offer standard sizing, then to offer the detailed "choose your size" instructions as an appendix for those that need it. Keep up the great work!!

I used the Precious Dress pattern to make a peter pan collar shirt for a pageant outfit. I was very nervous because I hadn't sewn something as detailed as collars, puffed sleeves and plackets in about 10 years and I was making this for someone else. Not surprisingly, Carla's instructions were perfect again - and simple. The shirt turned out too cute and the little girl won the pageant.

I used this pattern to make my girls Christmas dresses this year and I fell in love with it. the directions are the most detailed well written instructions for a pattern that I have ever seen. I was scared to death to try this with its puffy sleeves and button holes, both of which I'd never attempted before. I emailed Carla since she lives near me to see if she offered sewing lessons and not only did she get right back to me, but she offered to let me sew alongside her and help me if I got stuck. I decided to try it on my own and was blown away when I was able to understand each step and construct the garment on my own. I'll be using this pattern many many more times to make more dresses for my girls.

I'm having a lot of fun making this with taffeta for Xmas dresses. For the underskirt I will use Nanny Etticoat. One exception in the construction; I will use a knit for the upper half; attach the taffeta underskirt using Hug Snug seam tape to stabilize.

I can admit that I am a novice sewer whose last experience with the sewing machine was in high school 22 years ago. Abit rusty in my sewing skill is an understatement but I just want to make something pretty and personal for my little Hannah so I scoured the net for some patterns but they are all just a big confussion to me ... until I got CarlaC's pattern! It is so easy to follow and understand. Thanks so much for coming up with this pattern and since the design is timeless, I surely will have more of this dress until little Hannah is 10... I just finished my first project and is intending another one tomorrow... thanks for all those "aha" moments and the "wow i did that" - its a nice feeling to be able to make them for our precious little girl.

I created this pattern for the first time, and from the beginning it was so easy like all standard instructions for sewing the bodice together, and I can say that a beginner will fully understand. But when I got to the "placket part for the buttons" I got stuck! The instructions for making the placket was easy to follow but I don't understand why the back of the bodice ended up with not enough fabric to attach the buttons! Then I emailed the designer and I was so disappointed 'coz I haven't heard from them ever since! I'm sorry but I have to "re-design" the back bodice and ended up without the placket, it was easier this way and you can show off the nice buttons! Other than that it's a classic pattern!

When I saw that CarlaC had come out with a pattern like this, I was SO excited! I have a box full of commercial patterns that are similar in style to this one. I take out the instructions, read through them in total confusion, and then shove them back into the box. But, Carla's instructions are so clear. I was finally able to make the classic little girl's dress that I had always wanted! I had so many "A-ha!" moments while making this dress. There were many parts of garment construction that I never understood before reading the instructions in this pattern. If you have a problem making nice looking buttonholes- no worries! They will be covered by the placket. I thought this would be a complicated process, but it was surprisingly simple. I was also concerned about adding the collar, sleeve bands, and sleeves. But, the way that Carla tells you to construct the garment is so clear and easy! I highly recommend this pattern to anyone who wants to make a classic little girl's dress!

I once made a dress like this for one of my daughters from a commercial pattern-9 years ago. I was sure I'd never make a dress like this again. But Carla has come to the rescue with another amazing pattern! Her instructions are so clear and detailed and her methods so simple, the dress came together beautifully! The sleeves, collar and button placket were surprisingly simple. I'm sure I'll be getting a lot of use from this pattern.

Another AWESOME pattern by CarlaC. I love all the different options for the dress from classic to contemporary. Each step is well explained and done so that the beginner can understand. I have almost all of CarlaC's pattern sand they are what I turn to first. THANKS SO MUCH.

I loved this pattern,so versetile- make it up for a dressy occassion, or do a sleeveless-collarless dress for an easy, cool summer dress, use the right fabrics and it will make a great costume for various characters (Like Minnie Mouse or Alice in Wonderland) I needed a little extra under a sleeveless easter dress and used this pattern to make a blouse- I just made up the bodice and lengthened it- PERFECT! I really love the hidden back buttons (instead of zipper) and as long as you can read, your sleeves, collar and back placat will come out perfect every time. Carla has worked her magic yet again, her patterns are simply the best. I made this up in size 2, but will be trying it out in the 3 month size too. Thanks Carla!
