I work at a fabric store where we sell a generic ruffler and there are no instructions on the package. This tutorial has helped me explain the ruffler to several people that have in turn found their way to You Can Make This to expand their pattern libraries.
Peppermint Street Boutique - January 12th, 2012
If it hadn't been for this guide, my ruffler would still be in the package, stuffed in a drawer. Now I use it ALL. THE. TIME! It's easy to understand, and makes ruffling fun!
Brooke Granger - January 4th, 2012
So helpful! A ruffler can be very intimidating and this tutorial helps take away the fear and the unknown!
Cureton, Sarah - October 3rd, 2011
OMG!!! I can't believe my eyes. You have more info here than I've ever seen on a ruffler. when I ordered mine, yearssss-ago, the only help I recieved was how to attach. I figured out how to make the pleat and ruffle. THANK YOU sincerely for the info and for your blog. May you be blessed. A happy Sarah today. Thanks again..

It was so amazing to open the e-book and see the ruffling foot that I've owned and used for 30 years. Even better, Carla taught me things about it that I had not known before. Thank you so much. I really enjoy making ruffled items with it.
Darci Franco - August 1st, 2001
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I bought my foot several months ago and have worked with it a bunch not really knowing what I was doing. The gal that helped me at the shop had no idea how to work it so, I just had to figure it out for myself. I LOVE YOUR TUTORIAL! It made it a completely different experience for me. Now I can't wait to use it the right way. I had no idea how much potential that fott had!!
Christine - August 1st, 2001
Thank you Carla! I bought a new ruffler and had my daughter with me, therefore I could not take the class. I have sat here for the last 30 minutes dumbfounded by the lousy instructions. With your tutorial, I learned it in 5 minutes. Thank you so much for putting the time into such detailed instructions!
megan myer - August 1st, 2001
Thank you, thank you! My ruffler didn't come with any instructions at all, so I've never used it! I'm thrilled to have some fun with it now!
Robbi - August 1st, 2001
This was absolutely the best tutorial on using a ruffler that I've ever read! I've had mine forever but couldn't get it to work right and didn't know how to figure out the length, this tutorial made it super easy and now I use it all the time! I did use the suggestion of pulling out an old sewing machine I hadn't used in years, now it is setup all the time as my ruffling machine and does it much better than my expensive one. Thank you so much for writing this.
Mei - August 1st, 2001

Lilia Benjamin - August 1st, 2001
Well, I'd figured out the ruffler on my own with a lot of experimentation, but thanks so much for teaching about how to calculate how much you need and for the handy measuring printouts. This was really great.
christi keeton - August 1st, 2001
I have work in sewing plants setting flys, thumbs on gloves and setting sleeves so I know with persistance I could make anything. I hate making ruffels by hand and invested in a ruffler. The same thing happened to me as CarlaC. It came with printed instructions that you could barely read and only a 1 inch paragraph at that. I felt as if I had been sent a chinese puzzle. Thank you CarlaC for helping everyone. It was really thoughtful of you to publish this as a free download.
Tiffany H - August 1st, 2001
Thank you!!! This ebook has made my job so much easier. I have now made SEVERAL of your patterns all because I now know how to use my ruffler. I don't think I would have made as many clothes as I have without this ebook . Please keep your ebook coming!
Dorothy - August 1st, 2001
I just want to send a special THANK YOU to Carla. You are an amazing person. Your instructions, no matter what they are, have really proven to be the most understandable I have found. I have just ordered my ruffler foot and thanks to your designs inspiring me to finally take the leap in really sewing!!! THANK YOU a MILLION times over!!!!
Jodi - August 1st, 2001
Carla is the absolute BEST at what she does. I have several of her eBooks and have been able to make my daughters and their dolls several things b/c of HER patterns. I really was totally intimidated by a ruffler foot until I read through this. Like many of the others mentioned, Carla should be selling this to the Manufactures of ruffler foots!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU for your knowledge and expertise ;) This eBook proves true.....some of the best things in life are free!!!
Mary Brien - August 1st, 2001
Thanks so much for providing this tutorial... I just acquired a ruffler for my vintage Singer 348 and there were no instructions. Since it was not a part included with my original purchase of the machine (circa 1966) the owner manual had no info either. You have removed the fear I had... I can't wait to sit and 'play' with my new attachment!!!!!
Vera Orosz - August 1st, 2001
Thank you for all this information. Just purchased my ruffler today and received 1/2 sheet of instructions I could not make any sense out of. Got on the internet and found you. Now I am ready to ruffle......Thank you again....

Vistra Knox - August 1st, 2001

Deann - August 1st, 2001
Thank you thank you thank you! This is fantastic. I, like so many other readers, have been greatly disappointed in the instructions that came with my ruffler. I really expected better, I really expected...more like this! I SO appreciate your time in putting this together, and look forward to successfully using my ruffler later this weekend!

Connie Viramontes - August 1st, 2001
Just downloaded "Ruffler" manual. Great help!! I bought the attachment for my Janome and practiced making ruffles. This tool helps so much and with your booklet the chore of making ruffles is lessened. Clear instructions, great pictures, lots of info, ideas and the math is done!! Thank you so much for this site. I will be visiting much more in future.
Anna K - August 1st, 2001
thank you so much! My ruffler came without ANY directions and the online directions from the company were useless. Now I can ruffle like a pro!
Amy Kirby - August 1st, 2001
I have used the ruffler many times never getting quite the same result. I didn't understand quite how to alter the settings the right way to get what I wanted. This e book takes the guess work out of it totally! Its great we have someone to help us when our sewing feet come with little to no instructions! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain it in such detail!
Tiffany - August 1st, 2001
I can't THaNk YoU EnOuGh!! You have NO iDeA what I was going through to make ruffles, lets just say it included eLaStiC & a hEaDaChE! You always go the extra mile in your instructions, ThAnKs! Please keep them coming I think I have purchased all the ones you have listed!!

Roseanne - August 1st, 2001
Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to try it out. I've spent hours with the "instructions" sent with my ruffler. Your e-book and video make it look easy.
Anita - August 1st, 2001
The video is great. I have had a ruffler for about 40 years and never used it because I didn't know how it worked. Now I do, and I will get it out and try it.
Timilisa Fogal - August 1st, 2001
Thank You! Thank You Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so thrilled with this ebook. I have struggled, pleaded with - and cursed at my ruffler trying to get consistant ruffles! The photos and diagrams Carla created are invaluable! My ruffler and I are now good friends and my daughter's twirl skirts are soooooo much easier and quicker to sew. Wah Whoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
natalie avery - August 1st, 2001
this booklet is awesome. I have been using my mother's old machine and ruffler with no instructions, and it has been quite a mystery. I feel like the light was turned on!
Connie L - August 1st, 2001
This ebook is so wonderful! I don't think I would have had the courage to buy or use a ruffler without it! Thanks for making it so clear!
Bethany Iverson - August 1st, 2001
I've purchased rufflers but could never get them to work. I sat down and read through Carla's e-book and when I got up it only took me minutes to begin making ruffles. I've already completed a twirl skirt and can't wait to make more. Thank you so much Carla! This is by far the best e-book I've got. It helped me put my tools to use and quit waisting my money on more rufflers. Thank you for offering it for FREE! :)
Susan Davis - August 1st, 2001
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I just found this site, and coincidently also just found the ruffler attachment I bought several months ago but was too intimidated by the lack of directions to even try. Now my beautiful little grandgirl will be absolutely FESTOONED in glorious ruffles!!!
Ursula Scholle - August 1st, 2001
melia tx - August 1st, 2001
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I just made the nylon pettiskirt pattern from ycmt.com and I could not have done it without it. You are a life saver. I think this tutorial alone will allow me to make all of the items on this site. ( I am sucker for the patterns with ruffles)
Beth Scharwath - August 1st, 2001
YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THIS EBOOK! It is FABULOUS! I can't believe Carla offered this for free! Thank you!!!!!!!
April Byers - August 1st, 2001
Thank you for the easy instructions! I just used it for the first time with scraps and was able to ruffle and pleat with no problems. I have had my ruffler attachment for over a year and never thought I would use it because it looked so complicated; and the instructions the attachment came with were vague. I appreciate you offering this know- how- to guide for free!
Vicki H - August 1st, 2001
From all the sewers out there we can't thank you enough for this comprehensive guide to sewing with a ruffler! The instructions that came with mine only named the parts and what item adjusted what function..that's it. Nothing described even how to feed the fabric into the device. I never would have figured this thing out on my own. You have saved me hours of trial and error work. You should be selling this e-book to the ruffler manufacturers. Every ruffler should come with this guide!
