I began making these undies for my own children, and created the pattern with both comfort and style in mind. Now, I have drafted the patterns in sizes 2-4-6-8 for both girls and boys. There is no longer any excuse for having boring undies, get out your scrap bin and start mixing and matching!
What makes these undies special? First, there is no elastic involved. The waist and legs are finished with bands of cotton/ lycra fabric which hold the undies comfortably in place. The undies are made with a child in mind, so the style is modern yet modest. Using a variety of knit scraps makes these a fun, economical sewing project. Since you only need a little bit of fabric for each pair, this is a great way to repurpose outgrown tees, too!
scraps of knit fabrics, some must be cotton/lycra blend with good recovery. This is a great way to repurpose favorite outgrown tees! 1/2 yard of knit fabric will make 2 pairs of undies.
-sewing machine and sewing notions
-rotary cutter, grid ruler and cutting mat
-ball-point sewing machine needles
-iron and ironing board
-sewing marking pen with disappearing ink
Sizes that can be made: 2-4-6-8
My daughter loves these! She prefers these over the store bought ones. Love how I can make a pair of them in about a half an hour or less.
A smashing little pattern for using up scraps of favourite knits.
I tried to make a pair in a very small size first, but struggled a bit with the leg bands. I think it will be easier second time around with a bigger size. It would be great if this pattern could be released in adult size too!
Even using fold over elastic this ended up being too large for my teeny tiny grand daughter. (She's 2 and wears mostly 12 mos, was hoping this might work) LOL. But it's an easy pattern and works up fast. They did fit my friend's daughter though and worked great for her! She will be getting a while wardrobe of them.
i make this pattern soooo to understand and construct :)
I have this pattern and have never been able to get the legs right (totally my own failing not the pattern's) but did ultimately buy several from a friend who makes them (properly) and they are the only underwear my girls will wear sometimes :) which says a lot because they find underwear to be intensely uncomfortable.
I have used this pattern for SO many undies for my kids! Love it! It is also my fave go-to pattern for using up my knit scraps! I definitely recommend using cotton lycra for the waitbands - it is definitely my kids' faves - and they like me to chop an inch off the rise and add a 2 inch waistband instead of the thinner one. Highly recommend! Sadly, my 2 oldest children have now outgrown the pattern!
This is a great pattern. I have used up tons of old tshirts and my son loves wearing them.
I was originally making them with a layer of absorb, but now beyond that stage. Yay!
My daughter is tiny, I've always had problems finding undies to fit her and be comfortable. I've made one pair of these so far and I have to wash them every night because she won't wear anything else! Looks like I'll be making more of if I could only find the great fabrics used in some of the gallery photos - we're in Canada and our chain fabric stores don't carry anything as cute as those fabrics! I've done a bit of looking online but still can't seem to find anything; if you have some suppliers you can recommend, I'd appreciate it! Overall, great pattern, I can't wait for my little guy to be potty trained to make him some!
LOVE this pattern. It turns out perfect every time. Great for using up scraps of knits and for upcycling, which I think is fantastic. instructions are well written and have photos to go along. Thank you for a great pattern.
I love this pattern! I have made numerous pair already for my Grand Children! Easy to make and the possibilities are endless!
Fantastic pattern easy to follow brought this pattern for my friend daughter as she can't wear undies with elastic they are fab and a great way to use old t shirts
This is a great pattern. I made ten pair for my granddaughter, who loved them. So soft and comfy. Very easy to make and SO much less expensive than what's available in the store.
I really love this pattern, the pattern is easy to follow and not only do I now have a wonderful alternative to store bought underwear, I can upcycle clothing items to cut down on the costs involved. Thank you!
I must have made at least 20 of these wonderful undies in various sizes!
IMO this is the BEST sewing pattern ever!
Just wish it came in bigger sizes as my eldest is almost out of the biggest size.
Super easy and very comfy so says my daughter(age 6) she loves that i can turn a favorite old small or stained shirt into something she can still wear!
Great pattern, easy to follow comfy undies.
I have made some very cute undies using this pattern. Great pattern.
I made these for my sons, who both thought these were super comfy. They were really pleased to have special undies that were much cooler than their shop bought ones. Pattern went together quickly and easily, with well written instructions.
My 4yo daughter has sensory processing issues, and for about a year we have struggled with finding a brand of underwear she will wear, even expensive brands with covered elastic bother her around the waist and legs. I saw this pattern and bought it hoping for the best. I cut up an old tee shirt and pair of leggings and made her a pair. She was ecstatic because they are so comfortable and not tight around her legs or waist yet still cover everything! I am a beginning level sewer and was able to easily follow the directions and make a respectable pair of undies. Thank you so much, this pattern solved a years worth of frustration for my daughter and plan to make her a whole bunch of these in her favorite colors and prints!
Great pattern, very easy to follow even for a newbie to sewing with knits. Fabulous fit on my son, he loves them. Would definitely recommend!
Great pattern. Fantastic fit on my daughter who doesn't fit anything because she's so tiny.
I have made multiple pairs for my 4 children (ages 4 to 9) and they all love to wear them both the boys and girls! Quick, easy and cheap to sew. Great pattern!
So cute and comfy. My kiddos love them! :o)
This was really fun because now my kids can really pick out their own underwear. Plus I am sure this is a smart way to potty train- hopefully because they feel like they made their big boy/girl undies
We love, love, LOVE this pattern! Super easy and clear instructions and the pics are great! My daughter loves how cozy they are w/ the added bonus of no wedgies ;D
awesome pattern! these fit wonderfully. great for the skinny-minny kiddos who don't fit in the cheap wal-mart undies.
My daughter loves her undies. She couldn't find any in her room she had outgrown them so I grabbed some knits and this pattern and whipped up a couple of pairs in about an hour. The hardest part is stretching the leg and waist bands evenly. But don't let that intimadte you with a little practice you will be filling the drawers with this pattern. And in so many cute designs you won't have to spend a fortune to get cute panties. (or undies which I made my nephews)
This is a great pattern and easy to follow. Personally, I'm having a hard time working with the knits I've tried so far but that is a fabric problem not a pattern problem.
This is such a fun and easy underwear pattern with great photo instructions, especially if you have a serger.
The undies come out adorably! I have made several pair for my daughter and she loves them. It's a great use for scrap knits, too!
I love this pattern & my children love the finished product. They are their favorite undies to wear! I've made several pairs & plan on making many more.
Great pattern! I adapted it to make training underpants for my 3 year old son and it's a great way to upcycle t-shirts. I've had lots of fun mixing and matching patterns, colors, and graphics to create undies that my son loves. Definitely worth the money for what you can make. I've had good luck with binding that's at least 5% lycra/spandex.
I LOVE this pattern! The undies are comfy and have full coverage. They are great for using up bits and bobs of knit, or for giving new life to outgrown clothes. I have made quite a few pairs from favorite outgrown pajamas and teeshirts! This is one of my top five favorite children's patterns.
What a fabulous pattern. They day I got it I whipped up a dozen, showed my daughter a pair, and bribed her with them (she has been on potty strike.) She loved them so much, that she is now potty trained (it's only been 4 days!) I made them solely from her old tees, I even found some with spandex in them for the waist and leg bands! These are WAY cuter than anything you can buy from the store, super comfy for her, and work better than store bought undies when there is an accident. GREAT pattern! It has already paid for itself. Thanks so much!
I was able to test this pattern before it was finalized for sale purposes. It's a great pattern; just make sure you do use cotton/lycra blend fabric (10% lycra). They go together quick & easy. I like to make twirly knit skirts, so I've started making these with the leftovers - now even though she's showing her undies a bit when she twirls around & around, they are the SAME fabric print!
The undies went together very easy. The pattern is wonderfully written. Very clear instructions and easy to follow with lots of photos to help along the way. I love the design and so do my daughters.
I really loved this pattern! The undies turn out great and my child had no complaints. I will be making lots more! The directions and pictures are really great and easy to follow!
I have now made several of these. My daughter loves how comfy they are. She is always pulling at her store bought undies and taking them off because they are uncomfy. She leaves these on without any complaints! They were super easy to make, and the auther responded to my emails quickly when I had trouble with figuring out the proper sizing. Thanks!!!
