PDF Pattern to make this cat and mouse themed mug rug or mini quilt which measures 6 1/2" x 10"
You can use them for setting your mug on with a snack, or my favorite way, leaning them against the wall in my hutch. You can even stitch rings to the back and hang on your wall.
These are the funnest of things to make! If you choose the machine applique, you can whip these up in no time. They make great gifts when given with a cute mug. They are so easy whether you hand applique or machine applique. The most difficult part is trying to decide what fabrics to use.
I guide you through the entire process from beginning to end. I explain how to do it with hand applique and machine applique. I also give you tips and ideas for variations using different materials. I also give you lots of tips and illustrations.
I've made my patterns very easy to read and understand. I give you a complete list of everything you will need to complete the project. I've broken everything down into step by step instructions and have included lots of full color illustrations. The pattern pieces are very crisp and neatly drawn using a computer program.

Small scraps of fabric for appliques
1/8 yard of light weight paper backed fusible webbing, I used Heat N bond Lite
6 1/2 x 10 inch piece of fabric for top (see supply notes about starting with bigger fabric if desired)
6 1/2 x 10 inch piece of fusible fleece, I used Pellon brand
7 1/2 x 11 inch piece of fabric for back
2 3/4” x 44” strip of fabric for binding
Thread to match fabrics
Embroidery floss to match or contrast with applique fabrics
When choosing floss for the whiskers, line from nose, and nose on cat, and also the mouse’s tail,
you will want to choose a color that will contrast with the background it will be on so that the
stitching will show up against it.
2 - 10 mm wiggle eyes or buttons for eyes
Fabric paint for inner ears on cat & eyes and nose on mouse (you can use satin stitches if you prefer)
9” wide piece of 1/4” wide ribbon, tied in a bow (which can be stitched on, or glued on)
Washable fabric glue (for wiggle eyes and bow)
The above are just suggestions for embellishments. You can certainly use anything you want, or have on hand to embellish your appliques.
Scissors, pins, sewing and embroidery needles, embroidery hoop, paper & pencil, paper or cardstock (for printing pattern pieces), iron & ironing board, sewing machine, cutting mat with ruler & rotary cutter (optional), pressing cloth or piece of light colored, 100% cotton fabric for fusing your fleece to the top (depending on the brand you use, some fusible fleece instructions call for it).
