The finished quilt measures 30” x 36”. It is a perfect size for a newborn. As the baby grows into a toddler, he or she will be able to carry it around. Instructions are given to make a larger 36” x 48” quilt which is crib size. Finished blocks are 6” square. Cotton fabrics and batting were used for sample quilt. This pattern is intended for a novice sewer who has never made a quilt before. A baby quilt is such a wonderful gift to make for someone special but the thought of completing a quilt for someone who doesn’t know anything about quilting, can be intimidating. This pattern will simplify the process with a detailed description and photo of every single step.
This PDF e-pattern includes a full size pattern for the block, a materials list, detailed instructions written in English, and clear step-by-step color photographs.
Materials Needed
44/45” Medium weight cotton solid or print fabrics – five different 1/4 yard pieces for quilt blocks, 1/4 yard for binding, 1 yard for quilt back
Quilt batting – 34” x 40” rectangle (this does not have to be precisely cut – if rectangle is larger, that will be fine). A firm cotton batting is recommended. If a lightweight polyester batting is used, the quilt will require more quilting between the layers because the batting will not hold up as well due to washing and wear.
Coordinating sewing thread
