Fabric Quart Jar Container

Description

Instructions are given to make a fabric container for a quart jar. The container is 5 1/4” tall and it has a 14” diameter. The containers make wonderful gifts – fill quart jars with a layered recipe, party favors for birthdays, candy, dog treats, etc. Decorate the front with various holiday themed items to make the container even more festive.

Patterns and instructions are included to make the felt flowers. The flowers can be sewn on clutches barrettes, pins, etc.

Cotton and ultra suede fabrics were used for the sample containers. A ribbon handle is sewn to the tops of the sides using buttons. Optional instructions are included to fuse fleece to the outside fabric if you want the container to be padded.

Materials List for One Container:

Medium weight solid or print fabrics – 1/4 yard fabric for outside of container, 1/4 yard contrasting fabric for lining
1/2” to 1” Grosgrain ribbon – two 3/8 yard pieces the same width (they can be the same color or different colors)
Heavyweight iron-on interfacing or stabilizer – 1/8 yard (Peltex from Pellon was used for sample containers – interfacing/stabilizer is placed between the ribbon pieces to make the handle sturdy)
1/2” to 3/4” Buttons – two
Sewing thread – coordinating color
OPTIONAL – 1/4 yard of fusible fleece if you want a padded container
