Cute Critters Applique Designs
Description
The cute critter appliqués are fun and easy to make. There are six designs – a bird, owl, ladybug, turtle, snail and dinosaur. They are approximately 5” x 7” (the sizes vary depending upon the shape). They can be reduced or enlarged to any size. You can appliqué the designs on t-shirts, tote bags, bibs, party hats, etc.
Instructions are given to sew a machine straight stitch around the appliqué designs. Other options would be to sew a machine zig zag or satin stitch around the edges. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can embroider the blanket stitch by hand around the edges of the appliqué pieces. A diagram is included in the instructions to hand embroider French knots for eye dots. Pieces of ribbon folded in half are used to make legs and antennae on some of the critters.
Materials Needed
Light to medium weight cotton print fabrics for appliqué shapes – one 5” x 7” rectangle or smaller for each shape
Iron-on fusible web – one 5” x 7” rectangle or smaller for each shape (Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 Fusible Web by The Warm Company was used for sample appliqués but any fusible web for fabric will work fine)
1/4” to 5/8 Ribbon – two 2 1/2” pieces for bird and owl legs, and snail and ladybug antennae,
14” piece for bow on bird and owl (optional)
Sewing thread – color that coordinates with fabrics
Embroidery floss – color for eye dot
