Crossover Baby Shoes - Sizes 0-16mths

Description

These crossover baby shoes are soft and sweet! They keep their shape very well. Elastic straps are sewn to the shoes to create three different styles – ballet, sneaker and bohemian. The elastic is sewn to the back of the shoes and cross over the front so they will stay more securely on baby’s feet than shoes with side pieces of elastic. They are easy to make! Wool or acrylic felt is fused to fabric using a double sided fusible web. Sample shoes are made from cotton and satin brocade fabrics. Bias tape is sewn around the inside edge of the shoe tops.

This PDF e-pattern includes full size patterns, a materials list, instructions written in English, and step-by-step photographs. Shoes will fit babies from newborn to approximately 16 months. Five sizes of shoes are included in pattern - lengths of finished soles are 4”, 4.25”, 4.5”, 4.75” and 5”. Optional instructions are given to put a non-skid sole on shoes for babies that are walking.

Materials Needed to Make One Pair of Shoes:

-Fabric for tops and soles of shoes - amount needed is below (cotton and satin brocade fabrics were used for sample shoes)
-Wool felt for tops and soles of shoes - color that coordinates with fabric - amount needed is below (felt does not have to be 100% wool - it can be a blend – acrylic felt can be used but wool felt works best)
-Double sided iron-on fusible web - amount needed is below (sample shoes were made with Lite Steam-A- Seam 2 Fusible Web by The Warm Company but any fusible web for fabric will work)
-Narrow double fold bias tape – 3/4 yard
-1/4” Elastic – 1 1/4 yards
-5/8” ribbon for ballet style shoes – 2 yards
-3/4” Embroidered fabric trim for bohemian style shoes – 3/8 yard
-Sewing thread – color that coordinates with fabric & bias tape

AMOUNT OF WOOL FELT, FABRIC, AND IRON-ON FUSIBLE WEB NEEDED FOR SHOES ACCORDING TO SIZES:
4” Sole - 0 to 6 months – one 8” x 8 1/2” rectangle cut from wool felt, fabric and fusible web
4.25” Sole - 6 to 9 months - one 8” x 9” rectangle cut from wool felt, fabric and fusible web
4.5” Sole - 9 to 12 months - one 8” x 10” rectangle cut from wool felt, fabric and fusible web
4.75” Sole - 12 to14 months - one 9” x 10” rectangle cut from wool felt, fabric and fusible web
5” Sole - 14 to16 months - one 10” x 10” rectangle cut from wool felt, fabric and fusible web
