Christmas Character Applique Designs
Description
The Christmas character appliqués are fun and easy to make! There are five designs – a penguin, snowman, boy elf, girl elf and girl angel. They are approximately 6” tall x 7 1/2” wide (the sizes vary). They can be reduced or enlarged to any size. You can appliqué the designs on t-shirts, tote bags, bibs, dish towels, etc. The girl elf will also make an adorable witch for Halloween, using green fabric for the face, orange fabric for the cheeks, purple fabric for the hair and black fabric for the hat.
Instructions are given to sew a machine straight stitch around the appliqué designs. Another option would be to sew a machine zig zag or satin stitch around the edges. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can embroider the blanket stitch by hand around the edges of the appliqué pieces. A diagram is included in the instructions to hand embroider French knots for eye dots. Buttons are sewn on the tips of the hats. If you are making the appliqués for children under the age of three, you may want to eliminate the buttons and appliqué fabric circles instead.

Materials
Materials Needed
Light to medium weight cotton fabrics for appliqué shapes – one 5” x 8” rectangle or smaller for each shape
Iron-on fusible web – one 5” x 8” rectangle or smaller for each shape (Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 Fusible Web by The Warm Company was used for sample appliqués but any fusible web for fabric will work fine)
5/8” Buttons – one for tip of hat on snowman, penguin, boy elf & girl elf
5/8 Ribbon – one 1/2 yard piece for girl angel
Sewing thread (bright blue was used for samples)
Embroidery floss for eye dots (bright blue was used for samples)
