When I was having babies of my own, the most treasured gifts I received were handmade items from my sweet friends or family members. My mom always made a special blanket or quilt for each child. After many months and years of use, a few of my kids still adore them, and turn to them as comfort items. Some I have tucked away for safe keeping to pass along to them when they have children of their own!

This month, we have for you a receiving blanket pattern, and we hope that you'll take the opportunity to create something meaningful for a special mom or baby in your life. It is sure to be a treasured gift that your loved one will enjoy using!

This blanket pattern is the first part of a two-part series of baby gift patterns offered from You Can Sew This. (Watch for a coordinating burpie pattern to follow next month!) Although the blanket pattern is simple and works up quickly, it is highly versatile! You can create three different styles according to the fabrics and trim that you use. I'll show you how to construct blankets with three different edgings: jumbo rick-rick, piping, and ribbon.

Thanks for the easy to follow instructions and clear pictures. I've made two of these for myself and have just had my husband bring home more fabric to make some for friends who are having babies in the new year. Thanks again, I love your site!

I am a novice seamstress. My best friend of 31 years is due next month and after having so many problems trying to conceive I wanted to give her something special and to match her nursery theme. These instructions were easy to follow along with great pictures, which I constantly referred back to as I was going along. I made her 2 blankets and 4 burp clothes thanks to your free instructions. Out of all the gifts she said my was one of the favorites. Thank you so much for these! Now my sister is due in September and she's already hinting!

This is a very easy-to-make pattern that came out beautifully. I made one for my sister-in-law using chenille and rounded piping. She loved it so much, I'm making one for my soon-to-arrive little one.

I printed these instructions earlier this week and have been having a blast making these. The instructions are great and they are the cutest things. They make a great set with the burpee cloth pattern!!!!

I just went through the tutorial and it's great, the pics are clear, close us and I can't wait to make some of these. You have really done a great job on these. Especially with the cup at the corner edges. I always have problems there and you have made it simple.
