One of our favorite traditions is letting our daughter set out a plate of homemade cookies and big carrots for Santa and his reindeer. We leave a note for thanking him for his kindness.
One of our favorite tradtions is making a handmade stocking for a new member of the family (baby, daughter-in-law, friend spending Christmas with us) so everyone has a personalized stocking of their very own.
Christmas pj’s under the tree the kids get to open on Christmas Eve and our annual making of the gingerbread train!
We as a family, open christmas gifts on Christmas Eve. I don’t even remember opening presents Christmas Day. Ever. Christmas Day was more a chill out day and Christmas Eve was the day to celebrate. I’m breaking that tradition a bit with my husband and daughter as we do open gifts Christmas morning now.
We make a birthday cake for Jesus and sing “Happy Birthday” to Him!
Growing up I LOVED having holiday traditions with my family and I looked forward to them every year so now that I have a family I want that for my kids too! Every year we go ice skating and to see the lights at temple square (a must), see the lights at Thanksgiving point and visit Santa, we decorate a gingerbread house and bake cookies for Santa, and every year I give my daughter a present on Christmas eve, PJs of course and a book to add to her library, I started the year she was born. This year I am trying to add more Christ into our Christmas and hope to find a tradition we can add to bring Christ into focus but always looking for cute holiday ideas like this one. Thanks for your always adorable ideas!
Dana- that is one of the things we are doing this year! Love the idea :o)
One of our Christmas traditions is reading the Christmas story out of the Bible on Christmas Eve.
We spend 4-6 days with my Mom’s side of the family (my grandparents, all the aunts and uncles, all 13 of us grandchildren, plus three great-grandchildren) at a camp every year right after Christmas! We have so many special memories there!
We always make new paper snowflakes and hang them from the ceiling with tinsel.
I thought of another one that I started for myself as a kid and now share with my daughter, I read The Best Christmas Pagent Ever every year :o)
I started a Tradition to have Santa bring an ornament to my girls every year…that way when they leave home..they have some great childhood memories and ornaments to take with them..plus their first Tree won’t be so bare…lol
Another is on this note…is we have two Christmas Trees…one is just for the girls and they decorate it with all their fun ornaments…given and made!! that is in our Family room…
Then we have the one in our living room in front of our Window…and that is mine…
We always watch Its a Wonderful Life and read Twas the Night Before Christmas on Christmas eve….

We always go to the woods and cut our Christmas tree. They smell so good when they’re freshly cut!
One tradition is that on Christmas Eve everyone can choose one favourite dish for supper.
Every January 1, we make a huge pot of chili for lunch and eat it while watching the Rose Bowl Parade from the comfort and warmth of our home
Where do they get the ideas for the floats? Some of them are amazing!
Our favorite tradition is making cookies together, and arrange them into some nice gifts.
Making goodies on Christmas eve, then going to mass and coming home afterward to eat all the goodies
We hae a tradtional meal of soup and sandwiches before heading off to Christmas eve service. We do the pajama thing too.
I love stuffing the girls stockings with all kinds of fun treats, small candies, lipgloss, fun dress up bracelets. They love dumping the stocking out and finding all of the goodies. My hubby (though he may not admit it) gets exited to open his too. This year I found chocolate shaped like coal and put it in his stocking. haha
My husband started our tradition of opening one package on Christmas eve. We always make sure that the gift contains a new pair of PJ’s to wear that night! The girls love wearing their new jammies to bed.
We to open one gift on Christmas Eve. We all gather together and read stories before bed. Gets the kids super excited for Santa to come that night!
We always read the Christmas story from the bible. And of course, we open the christmas jammies, as well!
Our tradition is fetting together Christmas Eve for dinner. Then on Christmas Day we have breakfast (with Sprite and fruit cocktail in a glass). Then open gifts. Because most of out family is grown we choose a movie and go see it. Then come home for dinner (leftovers),
We love to drive around and look at all the Christmas lights. We play Christmas songs then drive to the neighborhoods that really go all out in decorating. It is a fun way to spend time with family.
every year at Christmas we go on a horse drawn sleigh ride through the lights of our small town!
My favorite tradition is to go to our church’s Chirstmas Eve Service. We go as a family and the service is candle light only. After all of the Christmas craziness if is a great reminder of the reason for Christams.
We always make Gingerbread houses every year for Christmas. It’s one of my favorite things to do with my girls. Every year they get more creative and I love to see them work together so well.
We make a birthday cake for Jesus & have a birthday party.
At my in laws each Christmas Eve, the children, all grand and great grand children now, do a little play telling the Christmas Story. This has been going on for about 20 years. The oldest grand children are in their 20s and have children now. However, my children are ages 4 and 6 and now enjoying being a big part of the show.
After the play, we sing Christmas Carols, then open gifts (children).
It’s quite a special time with a very big family (about 60 people) in grandma’s living room.
Every year my mother purchases to puzzle. She puts it out on the kitchen table on christmas eve. The entire family works on during the day. My dad and I have to finish it before either of us will go to bed. My mother started this tradition to keep me and my two sisters out of her way in the kitchen while she gets food ready for the next morning. Even though we are grown and frequently help in the kitchen - my mom still does this so she can do things her way.
We started a really cool tradition in our home two Christmases ago. We call it the 3 gifts tradition.
Here’s how it works:
Each child in our house gets three gifts from mom and dad. Mom and dad each get three gifts from each other.
The three gifts have rules however:
Gift #1- This gift represents gold. It is a gift that the receiver will love. This is usually the biggest gift for that person. The most effort goes into this gift.
Gift #2- This gift represents myrrh. It is a gift for the receiver’s body.
Gift #3- This gift represents frankincense. This is a gift to enhance the receiver’s personal walk with God.
This style of gift giving helps us to not go overboard and reminds us of the gifts the wise men gave Jesus.
One of my favorite traditions is going to eat at Cracker Barrel on New Years Eve with my family!
